The Dog days of Summer???
The last few weeks we have suffered with very high humidity, as well as hot temperatures in the 90s.
It's been awhile since I have written, as well as had the time to post about what has been going on with DLWM Photography.
My daughter turned two the end of last month and it was a very exciting celebration. Since she was born, I always enjoyed taking a break from taking pictures and would take her to a local studio. My son had gone for pictures at a very young age, and being a new parent I thought that that was just what you were supposed to do. Although the photography studio I went to was very friendly and talented, it is far from a calm environment for taking pictures for kids.
When you go into a studio with kids, they see the sheets in the room, they have to get dressed up...as well as the photographer is constantly saying, 'look at the camera.', 'Smile..', 'Look at this pretty toy I'm holding'. There are strangers out in the waiting room watching your pictures being taken and anxiously awaiting their turn, and you are stuck in a cramped space. As parents you are pretty much dedicated to being on the outside lines, where you can pretty much see but not touch while the photographer does their work. Out of all the pictures they take, you end up with about 10 shots, sometimes less that they were able to capture in your time slot. I'm not trying to take them down by any means, but as a kid it can be difficult to be that patient. I remember going as a kid, and now seeing the other side of the coin.
I had gotten lucky to be able to capture my daughter on my own, in her home environment and it was an excellent experience.
It was early in the morning and I had put her in a pretty little dress. We started out in our front yard and worked our way to the back yard. It was so much more relaxed than she had been in the past in a studio. She was able to be much more free about her surroundings than 'smile at this cute little doll.'
Following that I also had taken pictures at my church for the local fourth of July Parade. They had put on some activities for the children before the parade started and offered drinks to the people walking in the parade. I made sure I was around to take pictures of all the action.
Over the week of fourth of July, we had been out visiting my in laws. I was very lucky to be around my phone when I was because a local friend was in need of a photographer for her party. I volunteered and told her I'd get a cd made for her as well. She is looking forward to having me as her photographer. I was thrilled to finally be doing an event.
With all the excitement of the event, I was very thrilled.
After being home, I had gotten another message from a different friends to be a photographer for her as well.
I am very excited to announce these things. Event photography is exactly what I enjoy taking pictures of. I LOVE photographing couples, and when I have been at my cousin's weddings I have enjoyed taking pictures for them as well.

Location is Key
When your stumped at where to go to get your pictures taken for the first time by a personal photographer, the thoughts about location can be confusing.
Where are we allowed to go? Where should I go that is important to me/us? Where is there a place that is scenic?
These are common questions my couples, more so ask me when they schedule their photo session. Your photo opportunities are endless, you can pretty much go to any public place like a park, for example.
I recently took some pictures of my church for my church. The scenery was beautiful for the spring, and this would have been an ideal location for my husband and I since this is where we met.
As you can see, this location you have the gorgeous sky, the beautiful building, and plenty of plants to pose by. Had I not gotten engaged in the wintertime, this would have been top priority on my list of locations to go. Imagine this scene at sunset.
This is one of my other favorite locations to take couples. I used my church before as an example of one of the locations I'd choose. This is a local park that my couples enjoy visiting, as well as spending some quality time together while I snap pictures. What more can you ask for???
Next time you want to find more options about where to go for your photo shoot...contact DLWM Photography today. DLWMPhotography@gmail.com.

Jim Thorpe, PA
February 11th and 12, 2012
Last month I went on a weekend trip to Jim Thorpe, PA. It is an enchanting little town that has much history behind it. After the visit in the summer I was anxious to go back to visit this small unique town. I came to find out that much of my families history started in this little town so I was also anxious to find out more about that.
During this mild winter, we were lucky and fortunate enough to have weather mostly in the Fifties. I had planned to do some walking around, including finding the trail to the switchback railroad. I also had hoped to find some ancestors there. Of course, when the weekend came we had some snow flurries and weather in the 20s, not nice enough weather to walk around. So most of our touring we did by car, although we did get out and walk some.
Jim Thorpe, PA is such a unique little town. During the last 3 times I've visited I've still found out so much about this little town, every time there is still history to be learned about.
I visited the town over the summer (go back thru some old posts to read about that trip) and it has surprised me how much more there is to see. This visit I saw the inside of the Harry Packer Mansion (I'm not sure if photos were allowed, so none were taken inside), the Asa Packer Mansion was closed; as well as the old jail. I have managed to get photos of all the typical things. The statue, courthouse, mansions, train station, and some old buildings. I'm hoping in the spring to make it up there again to go for a journey on the 'Switchback Railroad'. Although the railroad is gone, there is now a hiking path in it's place. I'd also like to take the typical tours of the Asa Packer Mansion and the Jail...my kid said to me this morning that he'd like to go on the train ride again!
There is so many photo opportunities up there, and it is such a beautiful little town. I can hardly wait to go back up there again for some more photo opportunities!

Despite the advertisements for couples, I only managed to schedule a few small sessions. It also became difficult because our computer broke for one...and as the month went on, my husband and I visited Jim Thorpe, PA to help celebrate our 2nd anniversary. The weekend was fun, but not as romantic as we thought it would be. Pictures coming to the website soon!
The second day of our weekend getaway, we received a call that my Grandfather had passed away on Sunday morning. We continued our day as we originally planned, but we couldn't wait to get home and relax with the kids.
The whole week after he passed our schedule was filled between work, the funeral dinner, and his viewing on the day of our Anniversary. It was a big downer for us because we had planned to go out to dinner, at that point we were grateful to have the whole weekend together. Although things were bad we expected that they would pick up....and they didn't always get better. Due to unforeseeable circumstances, I was able to fully focus on my Photography
I am now hoping to open up to some more photo experiences in the Spring! Including a historical tour of our town...
If you are interested in scheduling a session, email me at DLWMPhotography@gamil.com!

With Valentine's Day Quickly approaching, the thought of couple photography is a happy occasion for me. Two years ago I was dating my boyfriend, and happily on New Years Eve he decided to pop the question.....'Will you marry me?!?', as the ball on time square was quickly following. It was an exciting time in my life, as well as a time I won't soon forget (as would any couple). It was such a romantic experience for the both of us, that is why I always run holiday photo sessions until AFTER new years eve because of when my proposal happened.
Why might you ask, would that introduce me to my Valentine's Day Special for couples of all status? (ex: married, engaged, dating)
Let me explain: After the exciting proposal on New Years Eve my now, husband and I, went to our minister at the time and was happy to share the news. We were excited and anxious to get married. I had always wanted a spring wedding, but because of unforeseen circumstances it just would not happen. The pastor suggested to us that because he was able to see our deep love for each other that 'why not get married on a day proclaimed around the world of sharing love?", and although I was never one to get married the day a lot of couples would get married, I didn't mind opting for something special. I found a hot pink dress (who could resist on Valentine's Day?!?) and we planned an intimate ceremony with our families (we planned a bigger reception later...which is why I also offer 'vow renewal ceremony pictures') and we celebrated Valentine's Day our way. Although we didn't have the big Princess wedding that everyone sees on TV and the movies, it was a nice in-between of the justice of the peace and an actual wedding ceremony.
I know how special Valentine's Day could be in a couples life, and I know what a special day it is.
I remember going to a local picture studio for our engagement pictures. We made our appointment and arrived on time (we went because we had a coupon), and when we went into the studio we stood there like statues and the photographer of the studio said to us, 'okay, what do you want to do?', my fiance (at the time) and I looked at each other puzzled. I didn't know any personal photographers at the time, but the photographer had us do about 3 poses tops. There wasn't much creativity behind the lens, as well as there was little communication between the photographer and us. It was a sad experience, but now it has been a great learning experience.
During this January we have had more warm weather than expected and it is the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and go for a walk with the one you love. As your personal photographer, I strive to get you amazing pictures in the short amount of time. I do more than say 'what do you want to do?', I try to learn about you and whomever I'm doing pictures for. I recently took my daughter for a walk, and the trees were great places to pose as well as walking paths offer a great place where you guys as couples could be alone, and when your not watching get some awesome candid shots! Would my engagement pictures had a different experience if we were allowed to be ourselves? MOST DEFINITELY!

New Year, Photography Experince On The Rise!
From February 1st to February 29th, 2012 ALL COUPLES WHO SCHEDULE THEIR SESSION (YOU DO NOT NEED TO GET ENGAGED OR MARRIED TO BE INCLUDED!) DURING THIS MONTH WILL RECEIVE A FREE CD WITH THEIR SESSION AS WELL AS 25% OFF ANOTHER SESSION TO USE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR OF 2012!
Photography in the new year has taken on a new form.
Chilly weather has defiantly been on and off during this January month, and between two kids and the cold air it has urged me to stay inside in a nice warm house. I have worked a lot on baking and cooking (inspired by the hit movie 'Julie and Julia'), and even purchased the book 'Mastering the Art of French Cooking' by Julia Child. Although I haven't managed to Master the Art of French cooking, my camera has managed to help me capture the essence of cooking.
During these winter months I have worked on my 'Food Photography' as well as try to schedule a few sessions. It has not been easy with winter and Christmas, and new years on the horizon so I have hoped to keep my photography in focus by simply focusing on things I was able to manage around the house.
This upcoming year I hope to get a maternity session and an engagement session.
Here is an example of my food photography

The camera has been active, and the weather has been beautiful! Now is the time to contact me about scheduling your session today! Want to get some pictures of your most favorite recipe or food....contact me for that now too!
