Jim Thorpe, PA
February 11th and 12, 2012

Last month I went on a weekend trip to Jim Thorpe, PA.  It is an enchanting little town that has much history behind it.  After the visit in the summer I was anxious to go back to visit this small unique town.  I came to find out that much of my families history started in this little town so I was also anxious to find out more about that.
During this mild winter, we were lucky and fortunate enough to have weather mostly in the Fifties.  I had planned to do some walking around, including finding the trail to the switchback railroad.  I also had hoped to find some ancestors there.    Of course, when the weekend came we had some snow flurries and weather in the 20s, not nice enough weather to walk around.  So most of our touring we did by car, although we did get out and walk some.
The Navigation Building located in the historic Jim Thorpe, PA
The Jersey Central Train Station, now visitors center located in Jim Thorpe, PA

Another view of the train station.  The train is out of season for now, so no train rides for us!

The Jim Thorpe Courthouse

The Old Jail.  This jail was closed sometime in the 1970s.

The Edwin Castle.  I believe this is where the Private Doctor for Asa Packer lived.
The Asa Packer Mansion
The Harry Packer  Mansion
The Opera House.
This is the Veteran's Statue.  You can also see the sign for the Molly Maguire Restaurant.
A Cute unique building located in the heart of Jim Thorpe, PA.  I loved the heart-decorations in the windows.
This is an old church located on East Chunk.  Amazing how the beauty is still there.....
Jim Thorpe, PA is such a unique little town.  During the last 3 times I've visited I've still found out so much about this little town, every time there is still history to be learned about.

I visited the town over the summer (go back thru some old posts to read about that trip) and it has surprised me how much more there is to see.  This visit I saw the inside of the Harry Packer Mansion (I'm not sure if photos were allowed, so none were taken inside), the Asa Packer Mansion was closed; as well as the old jail.  I have managed to get photos of all the typical things.  The statue, courthouse, mansions, train station, and some old buildings.  I'm hoping in the spring to make it up there again to go for a journey on the 'Switchback Railroad'.  Although the railroad is gone, there is now a hiking path in it's place.  I'd also like to take the typical tours of the Asa Packer Mansion and the Jail...my kid said to me this morning that he'd like to go on the train ride again!

There is so many photo opportunities up there, and it is such a beautiful little town.  I can hardly wait to go back up there again for some more  photo opportunities!

February--the month to remember.

During this last month I have introduced a new link on both my website and Facebook page to allow clients to schedule a session thru your computer!  How much more convenient is that?  Simply click the 'BookNow' button and virtually schedule your appointment.  If you'd like a wedding consultation, please specify that in the scheduling process.

Despite the advertisements  for couples, I only managed to schedule a few small sessions.  It also became difficult because our computer broke for one...and as the month went on, my husband and I visited Jim Thorpe, PA to help celebrate our 2nd anniversary.  The weekend was fun, but not as romantic as we thought it would be.  Pictures coming to the website soon!

The second day of our weekend getaway, we received a call that my Grandfather had passed away on Sunday morning.  We continued our day as we originally planned, but we couldn't wait to get home and relax with the kids.

The whole week after he passed our schedule was filled between work, the funeral dinner, and his viewing on the day of our Anniversary.  It was a big downer for us because we had planned to go out to dinner, at that point we were grateful to have the whole weekend together.  Although things were bad we expected that they would pick up....and they didn't always get better.  Due to unforeseeable circumstances, I was able to fully focus on my Photography

I am now hoping to open up to some more photo experiences in the Spring!  Including a historical tour of our town...

If you are interested in scheduling a session, email me at DLWMPhotography@gamil.com!

With Valentine's Day Quickly approaching, the thought of couple photography is a happy occasion for me.  Two years ago I was dating my boyfriend, and happily on New Years Eve he decided to pop the question.....'Will you marry me?!?', as the ball on time square was quickly following.  It was an exciting time in my life, as well as a time I won't soon forget (as would any couple).  It was such a romantic experience for the both of us, that is why I always run holiday photo sessions until AFTER new years eve because of when my proposal happened.
Why might you ask, would that introduce me to my Valentine's Day Special for couples of all status? (ex: married, engaged, dating)
Let me explain:  After the exciting proposal on New Years Eve my now, husband and I, went to our minister at the time and was happy to share the news.  We were excited and anxious to get married.  I had always wanted a spring wedding, but because of unforeseen circumstances it just would not happen.  The pastor suggested to us that because he was able to see our deep  love for each other that 'why not get married on a day proclaimed around the world of sharing love?", and although I was never one to get married the day a lot of couples would get married, I didn't mind opting for something special.  I found a hot pink dress (who could resist on Valentine's Day?!?) and we planned an intimate ceremony with our families (we planned a bigger reception later...which is why I also offer 'vow renewal ceremony pictures') and we celebrated Valentine's Day our way.  Although we didn't have the big Princess wedding that everyone sees on TV and the movies, it was a nice in-between of the justice of the peace and an actual wedding ceremony.

I know how special Valentine's Day could be in a couples life, and I know what a special day it is.

I remember going to a local picture studio for our engagement pictures.  We made our appointment and arrived on time (we went because we had a coupon), and when we went into the studio we stood there like statues and the photographer of the studio said to us, 'okay, what do you want to do?', my fiance (at the time) and I looked at each other puzzled.  I didn't know any personal photographers at the time, but the photographer had us do about 3 poses tops.  There wasn't much creativity behind the lens, as well as there was little communication between the photographer and us.  It was a sad experience, but now it has been a great learning experience.
During this January we have had more warm weather than expected and it is the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and go for a walk with the one you love.  As your personal photographer, I strive to get you amazing pictures in the short amount of time.  I do more than say 'what do you want to do?', I try to learn about you and whomever I'm doing pictures for.  I recently took my daughter for a walk, and the trees were great places to pose as well as walking paths offer a great place where you guys as couples could be alone, and when your not watching get some awesome candid shots!  Would my engagement pictures had a different experience if we were allowed to be ourselves? MOST DEFINITELY!

New Year, Photography Experince On The Rise!

From February 1st to February 29th, 2012 ALL COUPLES WHO SCHEDULE THEIR SESSION (YOU DO NOT NEED TO GET ENGAGED OR MARRIED TO BE INCLUDED!) DURING THIS MONTH WILL RECEIVE A FREE CD WITH THEIR SESSION AS WELL AS 25% OFF ANOTHER SESSION TO USE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR OF 2012!

Photography in the new year has taken on a new form.

Chilly weather has defiantly been on and off during this January month, and between two kids and the cold air it has urged me to stay inside in a nice warm house.  I have worked a lot on baking and cooking (inspired by the hit movie 'Julie and Julia'), and even purchased the book 'Mastering the Art of French Cooking' by Julia Child.  Although I haven't managed to Master the Art of French cooking, my camera has managed to help me capture the essence of cooking.

During these winter months I have worked on my 'Food Photography' as well as try to schedule a few sessions.  It has not been easy with winter and Christmas, and new years on the horizon so I have hoped to keep my photography in focus by simply focusing on things I was able to manage around the house.

This upcoming year I hope to get a maternity session and an engagement session.

Here is an example of my food photography

The camera has been active, and the weather has been beautiful!  Now is the time to contact me about scheduling your session today!  Want to get some pictures of your most favorite recipe or food....contact me for that now too!

A Look Back on the 2010 and 2011 Photography Season!

Christmas is just about 48 hours away and as a photographer, it is time to relax and remember the last year.  As quick as 2011 came in, it left too!  Although I didn't accomplish as much as I would have wanted to, I did accomplish more than I would have hoped (which is a great opportunity for a starting Photographer).

This time last year I was developing myself as a photographer.  My daughter was just about 6, almost 7 months old and my point-and-shoot camera was always being pulled out.  I was always trying to catch a glimpse of my 'baby' before she grew up!

In the meantime, a good friend at that time suggested I check out some photography books from the local library.  She made the point of saying that the books are free to rent (unless of course you're late returning them) and that you get them for at least a good month (and more if you renew) and being a stay-at-home mom at the time I had the perfect opportunity to read more about my new and growing hobby.  In the meantime I did land a small job in my local town and I still had the weekends to expand my photography experience, practice and knowledge.

By the time spring came, my graduating high school offered a 'Beginner Photography' class that was roughly about 8 weeks long.  Each week we touched on important aspects of photography, as well as worked hands on with different photography experiences.  We talked about Portrait Photography, Landscape Photography, as well as rule of thirds, and understanding the basics of camera knowledge, and of course much more!  Although I still only had my point and shoot, the knowledge I gained was very helpful in the later months.

What beautiful colors!
The longer the class progressed, the better my photos showed for it.  We took a trip to a local state park, and even journeyed into a local township park for some more photography practice!  My insights on becoming a photographer were much more clear, and I was soon able to capture precious photos of my children and family.  Although that was all I had at the time, I posted the pictures to Facebook and sat back and enjoyed the comments coming in.

I had wanted, and hoped to get a photo session for someone but I had no idea where to start or where to begin with starting that kind of process.  I had looked at a few websites (which I felt were too pricey for me to charge with barely any experience, other than just my own family).  and read Photography magazines, books, and other websites for information and insight.  I tried a 'trail' name for myself (only to find out that I was one of more than 1,000 Photographer's with that same name), and tried building a website for myself.  Although it was tricky, I worked on snowy days and my days off to furnish what I was hoping would become a true website for myself.  For example, I wrote a little autobiography of myself as well as trying to find a way to get pictures from weddings and other things I had done and display them.  The tricky part was trying to find a price (without over charging) and trying to find a way to set everything up on the site the way I wanted it.  After about 4 or 5 months of my 'trial run', something happened to the website and I was literally locked out of the website. I couldn't remember the password, and because the site had updated and changed everything around my photography site looked outdated.

I took that step to really step up my photography as well as my advertizing and blogging.  I finally had found a camera to invest in, and secured my very first session with a good friend of mine!  What a pleasure it was!

As my last session was successful, I started working on my photography like crazy! Everything was a challenge to get a photo of!  I am even apart of my local Photography Club, and one of my friends signed me up a weekly Photography Competition, and now it is always a challenge to find or take a picture of to submit to the competition every week.  When the weather changes, the camera is out...when the kids are doing something special the camera comes out and it is even more fun!

This is where it all began.  Photography is defiantly something that I absolutely LOVE!  Not a day goes by that I don't wonder what I can get a photo of next or what next photo opportunity will come.

In 2012 I am looking forward to scheduling my first Engagement Session (and it excites me so much, I LOVE Photographing young couples!), I had the honor of Photographing my friends Amanda and Jason (shown above) AND my sister-in-law and her hubby for her Anniversary Party!  I've also had a few 'Sister Sessions'..one with Amanda and her sister, and one with two sisters to a friend.  Also in the upcoming year I am honored to be doing more maternity sessions AND newborn sessions!  I am also hoping to get at least one wedding to do for someone, as well as hoping to capture some magical moments of Children.  I'm hoping that more people will be more open to my growing experience as well as my open-mindedness of my photos. I enjoy watching people having fun and relaxing while their pictures are being done, it is much more personable and it is a better way bring yourself out in  your photos.

I will continue to blog about this last year.  There is so much to talk about!  This is only the beginning....this is where my Photography Story began.

In my next blog I will talk more about life as a growing Photographer, how my skills have been furnished to my photography and my photography knowledge.

What a Busy season it is....

Christmas has been such a busy season this year.  It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating Thanksgiving and all ready it is time for Christmas!

I'm sure  many people are baking cookies, wrapping gifts, putting up the tree and planning those special family gatherings.

During this winter season, I had one Holiday Session and it was absolutely WONDERFUL!  The pictures were beautiful and I got to take pictures of two sisters.

My husband officiated a nearby tournament and I was honored to capture some special sports photography of him.

I also did a photo shoot of my kids for my holiday cards.
